TECHNOLOGY
A clear technical path for direct phone transfer.
Movapper runs its device communication component on Android and connects to iPhone over USB. Here is how connection, authorization, data parsing and restoration fit together.
Key technical components
- Device connection — usbmux, lockdown
- Opening and trusting a session with an iPhone over USB, without iTunes or the Apple Mobile Device Service installed on anything.
- File access — AFC, HouseArrest
- Reading and writing the parts of the device filesystem an authorised session can reach, including app containers.
- Backup and restore — mobilesync
- Speaking the backup protocol directly and parsing what comes back, including the Manifest.db index and the file layout behind it.
- Newer iOS transports — RemoteXPC
- Device communication changes with newer iOS versions. Refer to the current app release for supported versions.
- Device communication on Android
- The protocol client runs on Android so the two phones can connect by cable without a computer.
- Media and metadata
- Handle the media files and metadata involved in transfer. Check the app for the content supported by your release.
Support depends on the device, the operating system version and the release you are running. Where something is not supported yet, the app says so.
